fo-ti-root

Fo-Ti Root

The Fo-Ti root is derived from the Polygonum Multiflorum (Chinese knotweed), also known as the Thunb plant.  It is a legendary herb believed to increase life span and promote vitality.  He Shou Wu is one particular Chinese herbal remedy derived from the Fo-TI root, it translates to “the black-haired Mr. He”, as it restored youth to Mr. He and returned his black hair.

The leaves, roots, and toot tubers of this vine-like herb are separated and used for different medicinal preparations for treating a variety of ailments.  This plant is used for rejuvenating nerves, brain cells, endocrine glands, hair health, and sex vigor.  Chinese knotweed is also used for stimulating the adrenal glands, detoxifying the body, and improving cardiovascular endurance.

It may treat diabetes, cancer and hear disease as well.  The Fo-Ti root is widely used around the world today; many studies have found promising results for the biological effects of this plant.  There is a need for more human studies to confirm all of the beneficial indications of the Chinese knotweed; however, in the meantime

Traditionally, the processed form includes boiling the plant parts in black bean liquid. The fresh preparation is used primarily for detox, malaria prevention, carbuncle reduction, and easing of the bowels.  The processed version is commonly used for vitality, overall health, and vigor.  Be mindful that traditional Chinese medicines that included this plant are quite complex and consuming the plant by itself will likely impact the body in a much different way.
