turmeric

Tumeric

Tumeric is embeded in the food of many different cultures around the world, it is also highly regarded for its numerous health benefits. Tumeric has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. One of the main beneficial compounds present in tumeric is curcumin, one of the curcuminoids found in turmeric. Curcumin is the backbone behind turmeric’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, comprising of roughly 3%of the herb.  Therefore, for the best and fastest results, use an extract of curcumin, black pepper in the diet helps absorb it 20x more efficiently; meanwhile, it is fat soluble and is absorbed better when taken with fats.

The anti-inflammatory activity of turmeric works on the molecular level and competes with several different pharmaceutical drugs specifically designed for their anti-inflammatory effects.  Turmeric has been found to drastically increase the body’s antioxidant capacity, boosting the body’s natural antioxidant abilities.

Studies have shown that turmeric may improve brain function, including memory.  It is indicated for reducing the risk of heart disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, aiding digestion, reducing blood sugar levels and arterial plaque, as well as supporting cancer treatments.  It is believed to assist with Alzheimer’s and possibly even prevent it in the first place, especially since oxidation and inflammation are two major factors in the disease.
